More than 160,000 kids are diagnosed with cancer each year.

Despite tremendous progress, cancer remains the #1 disease

killer of children in North America.  I’m out to help change that!

Since St. Baldrick’s began in 2000, shavees like me have raised

more than $50 million.

The St. Baldrick’s Foundation made $15 million in grants last year,

to some of the top pediatric cancer researchers working today,

and also to 30 young doctors who will be the research experts

of tomorrow.

Children fighting cancer lose not only their hair but years of their

childhood, and sometimes their lives. Compared to their struggle,

shaving my head is a small sacrifice, and the money raised will

make such a difference for them.

PENINSSULA PEOPLE MARCH 2006

An unprivileged childhood
by Paul Browning

Because we were Jews, we knew what was going to happen.
The rest of the Polish people didn’t know.
This was one of the very few times back then when it was good to be a Jew.”
Robert Geminder, his escape from the death trains....

An Unprivileged Childhood

DAILY BREEZE By Laura E. Davis
November 28, 2007

He was only 6 when he crouched in a cemetery and watched as 12,000 people were executed and pushed into mass graves. It was 1941, and Nazi snipers were gunning down thousands of Jews packed into the graveyard in Stanislawow, Poland. But Robert Geminder, his grandmother, mother and older brother survived.

Interview by: Marvin H. Berenson

It was a beautiful morning in Palos Verdes as I walked toward the outdoor table where Bob Geminder, his wife, Judy, and their shaggy, black, long-haired dog, Charlie, waited. Bob had suggested meeting for breakfast at one of his favorite restaurants. He rose and greeted me with a hardy handshake and an inviting smile. It’s hard to describe exactly what drew me to Bob, but within minutes I felt he was an old friend. Perhaps it was his smile or warm, friendly manner.
